Divided by common values?- Divergent interpretations of Art. 2 TEU amongst European Member States
In 2019 students of legal and political studies from the University of Cologne (Germany) as well as from the Turkish-German University, Istanbul (Turkey) participated in the PROTEUS project. The students were assigned different teams (different Member States of the EU, European Commission, Judges and Advocates General of the Court of Justice etc.) and had to prepare their pleadings on an issued Moot Court Case dealing with violations of Art. 2 TEU - the EU's fundamental values- by European member states.
The summer school took place in Brussels (24th - 28th June 2019) where all students spent 5 days togehter, visiting the first three days different EU institutions and NGOs. These three exciting days were followed by the two-day Moot Court (simulation exercise of a European Court of Justice proceeding) where the teams had to present and defend their written pleadings orally in front of the Judges and Adovcates General team.
